We are an apolitical organization founded in 2017 and registered as a nonprofit in 2020 to advance, strengthen, and provide opportunities and support for Israeli women of Ethiopian descent.We achieve our goals through inspiration, the presence of role models, and by providing opportunities in higher education and employment, while also:Encouraging and helping members pursue higher education.Supporting training and business development.Providing assistance to women with welfare-related challenges.Our dream is to integrate women from the Ethiopian-Israeli community into key positions within society, improving their status, strengthening the community, and creating economic resilience, cohesiveness, and equality within Israeli society.We believe that by empowering women in the community, we also build strength and pride in our identity and roots.

To integrate women from the Ethiopian community into key positions in Israeli society, improving their status in order to strengthen the community, promote economic resilience, and support social cohesion and equality. Tamar Elbon
36 years old, married, mother of two, from Ashkelon.
"After fulfilling a few childhood dreams, I felt a strong urge to reconnect with one of my deepest passions: home cooking, especially Ethiopian cuisine. I started my business with the goal of sharing the powerful story of the Beta Israel community and its core values through Ethiopian food. These values are reflected in the way we prepare, present, and enjoy our meals. Empowering Women offered a mentorship program that included English lessons with an American mentor. I applied, was accepted, and was paired with Laura, who turned out to be the perfect fit. I already spoke some English but needed more confidence to communicate freely. Our sessions focused on language skills and also explored my business and cooking workshops. It was a meaningful, uplifting, and enjoyable experience for both of us. As a result, I led my first online cooking workshop in English, called 'Injera in a Jiffy,' for an American audience. It was a full one-hour session entirely in English. The experience gave me new inspiration and boosted my confidence. I even started listening to podcasts in English. Today, I am continuing to grow both personally and professionally, with new projects on the way, some of which are in English."

"לאחר שהגשמתי מס' חלומות ילדות שהיו לי, עלה ברצון חזק נוסף לתת ביטוי לאהבה ישנה ותמידית שלי שהוא תחביב הבישול הביתי, בפרט בישול אוכל אתיופי.
הקמתי את העסק במטרה לספר את סיפורה המדהים של קהילת "ביתא ישראל" והערכים הנעלים שבה דרך המטבח האתיופי ולהראות כיצד ערכים חברתיים אלו משתקפים גם באוכל, באופן ההכנה וההגשה.
"נשים מעצימות" הציעו תוכנית עם מסלול ליווי של מנטורינג ללימודי אנגלית ע"י מנטור אמריקאי, תכנית אליה נרשמתי והתקבלתי. דיברתי אנגלית אך הרגשתי שאני חייבת חיזוק וביטחון לתקשר ולשוחח באנגלית. ההתאמה ביני לבין המנטורית Laura הייתה כמו כפפה ליד. מפגשי המנטורינג כללו שיעורי אנגלית ובנוסף הרחבנו את השיח והעשייה סביב העסק שלי וסדנאות הבישול שלי וזה היה מעניין לשתינו, מעצים, וכמובן מעורר תיאבון
בזכות כך העברתי לראשונה סדנת בישול באונליין Injera in jiffy = אנג'רה ברגע - לקהל אמריקאי, במשך שעה שלמה באנגלית בלבד! וגם קיבלתי השראה לעשייה נוספת בעסק שלי, ואני שומעת פודקאסטים באנגלית. חיזקתי את הביטחון העצמי שלי בכל הקשור לשפה האנגלית.
היום אני עם הפנים קדימה בהתפתחות האישית והעסקית ועם פרוייקטים נוספים בעסק שחלקם באנגלית."
Tekuye Melesse
Married, mother of two, from Rehovot.
"I always dreamed of being independent, without a boss over me, and building financial freedom. The community provided me with great exposure to new clients, recommendations, and a strong platform for advertising and marketing my business. The start of my career was incredibly tough, to the point where it's hard to explain. I had no confidence, didn't know how to gain clients, and wasn't profitable, mostly just expenses. There were days when I felt like giving up, but my desire to succeed was stronger. I read books on success and had the support of a positive and educational environment that helped me grow mentally and emotionally. During this journey, I found my true calling in skincare. I always enjoyed meeting people, and I loved giving facials. That led me to study and develop in the field. Now, I own a clinic in Rehovot with three employees, and I’m planning even more exciting updates and surprises."

"תמיד חלמתי להיות עצמאית, בלי בוס על הראש ולבנות חופש כלכלי, הקהילה נתנה לי המון חשיפה ללקוחות חדשות, המלצות של לקוחות ופלטפורמה מצוינת לפרסום ושיווק של העסק שלי.
תחילת הקריירה הייתה קשה מאוד ברמה שאני לא יכולה להסביר במילים, לא היה לי ביטחון, לא ידעתי איך משיגים לקוחות, לא רווחית בעיקר יש הוצאות רק. היו ימים שנשברתי ורציתי להרים ידיים אך המטרה להצליח היה יותר חזק קראתי ספרים להצלחה וזכיתי בסביבה מעודדת ומלמדת שבנו אותי נפשית ושכלית. תוך כדי עשייה הרגשתי שהיעוד שלי נמצא בתחום הקוסמטיקה תמיד נהניתי לפגוש אנשים, אהבתי את המגע לעשות להם טיפול פנים לכן החלטתי ללמוד את התחום ולהתפתח בו. והיום זה היסטוריה בעלת קליניקה ברחובות עם 3 עובדים ומתכננת עוד הרבה חידושים והפתעות.״
China Melesse
31 years old, from Ashkelon.
"It was very important to me to earn an academic degree, and when I explored my options to check that box on my 'small successes' list, criminology fit well in terms of class days, hours, and admission requirements. I was pleasantly surprised to discover just how fascinating this field really is. Like many students, my biggest concern was the financial aspect. How do you manage it? Thanks to 'Empowering Women,' I was able to begin my studies with confidence, without the initial pressure and panic. Last year, the amazing Racheli Malkai was chosen as the 'Woman of the Year' by Mifal HaPais, and as part of the honor, they selected five women who began academic studies in 5782 and awarded them scholarships on behalf of the Empowering Women Association. I was honored to be one of the women selected. It truly was not something to take for granted. Today, I’m approaching my second year of studies. Alongside school, I also started working with at-risk youth, which is a whole world of its own. And for me, the sky is the limit."

"היה לי מאוד חשוב להיות בעלת תואר אקדמאי וכשבדקתי וחיפשתי מה ללמוד על מנת לסמן וי על "תואר אקדמי ברשימת ההצלחות הקטנות שלי, קרימילונוגיה התאים לי מבחינת ימי לימוד , שעות ותנאי קבלה.
והופתעתי מאוד לגלות עד כמה התואר הזה מעניין.
החשש הגדול שלי , כמו כל סטודנט , היה איך מסתדרים מבחינה כלכלית? ובזכות "נשים מעצימות" התחלתי את הלימודים בביטחון ,בלי הלחץ והפאניקה ההתחלתיים. בשנה שעברה רחלי מלכאי המדהימה נבחרה לגיבורת השנה של מפעל הפיס, והם בחרו חמש נשים שהתחילו לימודיים אקדמאים בשנת תשס"ב והעניקו להם מלגה בשם עמותת נשים מעצימות. הייתי אחת מהנשים שנבחרה. לא מובן מאליו כלל.
כיום , אני לקראת השנה השנייה בתואר. ממש במקביל ללימודים התחלתי לעבוד עם נוער בסיכויי שזה עולם שלם בפני עצמו.
והשמיים הם הגבול בעבורי."

"My dream is to work in education and therapy, driven by a desire to understand people, their complexities, and what motivates or holds us back. I entered this field with the intention of helping others, believing in my own strength and resilience. Along the way, I discovered that not only do I enjoy it, but I’m actually good at it. That’s what led me to dive deeper and turn it into a profession. I reached out to Racheli from Empowering Women as a last resort, after a friend casually mentioned her. I had tried applying for scholarships through various channels and was close to giving up. Racheli connected me with the right people, and I received a scholarship far beyond what I expected. It all came with kindness, grace, and an incredible sense of support. Today, I’m finishing my first year at Peres Academic Center in the Behavioral Sciences program. At the same time, I manage a youth center for teens in Ramla."

"החלום שלי הוא לעסוק בתחום החינוך והטיפול מתוך רצון להבין אנשים ומורכבויות ומה ממניע או מעכב אותנו, הגעתי לעולם הזה בכוונה לעזור ולהיות שם עבור אחרים מתוך אמונה בכוחות ובחוסן שלי ומצאתי את עצמי לומדת מתפתחת ואף טובה בזה ולכן בחרתי להעמיק ולהפוך את זה למקצוע.
פניתי לרחלי מנשים מעצימות כמוצא אחרון לאחר שחברה אמרה לי בשיחת אגב, ניסיתי לקבל מלגות בכל מיני ערוצים ודרכים וכבר כמעט ויתרתי אבל רחלי חיברה אותי לגורמים הרלוונטים וזכיתי לקבל מלגה הרבה מעבר למה שציפיתי והכל בנועם ובחן ובתחושה מדהימה.
היום אני מסיימת שנה ראשונה במרכז האקדמי פרס בחוג למדעי ההתנהגות, ובמקביל אני מנהלת מרכז נוער לנערים ונערות ברמלה.״

"My dream was to study Human Resources because I’ve always loved the world of management, especially working with and for people. For me, the Empowering Women organization is a support system that helps Ethiopian-Israeli women move forward. The organization assists in many ways. Personally, I received close guidance and help in obtaining a scholarship for my Bachelor's degree. Racheli Malachi, who leads the organization, supported me throughout the entire process and was always there to answer any question, at any time. I’m deeply grateful to the organization, and especially to Racheli, an incredible woman who gives so much to others without expecting anything in return. Thanks to you, I can now begin my studies with peace of mind."

"החלום שלי היה ללמוד את תחום משאבי אנוש מכיוון שאני מאוד אוהבת את עולם הניהול וביחוד לעבוד עם ומול אנשים. בשבילי עמותת נשים מעצימות היא עמותה שתומכת ועוזרת לנשים יוצאות אתיופיה למען קידומן, העמותה עוזרת בהמון דברים, אני למשל קיבלתי עזרה וליווי צמוד במלגת לימודים לתואר ראשון, רחל מלאכי אחראית העמותה ליוותה אותי לאורך כל התהליך והייתה שם בשבילי לכל שאלה, בכל שעה, מודה לעמותה וביחוד לרחלי אישה מדהימה משכימה ומעלה שפועלת למען האחר ללא שום תמורה, אז תודה על כל העזרה והתמיכה, יודעת שאני עכשיו יכולה ללמוד בראש שקט בזכותכן."
